Special Guest, Former Outland Trophy Winner, First-Round Draft Pick, All-Pro Football Player and Grammy-Winning Songwriter Artist, Mike Reid to perform at “Blue Bloods in the Round®” Feb. 13 at Humble Baron at Nearest Green Distillery
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (January 30, 2025) – Mike Reid, former Penn State Football All-American, Outland Trophy Winner, First Round Draft Pick, Defensive Rookie of the Year and All-Pro Lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals will be the special guest at the Blue Bloods in the Round event on Feb. 13, 2025 at Humble Baron (touting the World’s Longest Bar) at Nearest Green Distillery (3125 US-231, Shelbyville, TN).
Mike Reid’s music career may have eclipsed his football career. He retired from the Bengals in 1980 to pursue an artist and songwriting career in Nashville. Since then, Reid has amassed 21 number one songs, was ASCAP’s “Songwriter of the Year,” won a Grammy® for Ronnie Milsap’s “Stranger in My House” and achieved superstar songwriting status for writing Bonnie Raitt’s hit, “If I Can’t Make You Love Me” considered on many charts as one the greatest songs of all time.
In addition to Milsap and Raitt, Reid’s songs have been recorded by Prince, Anita Baker, Bette Midler, George Michael and Nancy Wilson, Etta James, Kenny Rogers, Ann Murray, Wynonna Judd, Alabama, Joe Cocker, Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson, Collin Raye and Tim McGraw. Some of the other songs that Reid has composed are “My Strongest Weakness”, “To Be Loved By You” (Judds), “In This Life” (Raye and Midler), “Sometimes I Wonder Why” (Baker), “Forever’s As Far As I’ll Go” (Alabama) and “Everywhere” (McGraw).
Reid will share some of his football and music industry experiences at this one-of-a-kind event celebrating some of the “blue blood” music nobility that MTSU has fostered along with the new athletic department endeavors to revenue-share with their athletes.
The event will be hosted by film and TV star (“Last Man Standing”) turned country artist Jet Jurgensmeyer while Grammy award-winning and decorated songwriters perform with Jet, including MTSU alumnus Luke Laird, Jamie Moore, Natalie Hemby, and Gordie Sampson.
There will be two songwriter rounds. The first round will feature “up and coming” recent MTSU graduate songwriter/artists Carter Elliott and Lauren Teel, Amalie Sampson, as well as recently “signed” writer Grady Block from Big Loud Publishing.
Blue Bloods in the Round is sponsored by the Athlete Licensing Company (ALC). The event is being promoted by MTSU student-athletes, with the athletes receiving NIL money through the ALC CONIC app for their posts on social media promoting the show.
