Third Party Administration Organization Helps Protect and Optimize NIL / IP Rights

Nashville, TN [Nov. 15, 2023] —Athlete Licensing Company (ALC), a tech-enabled name, image and likeness (NIL)/intellectual property (IP) third party administrator (TPA) announced today former Penn State and NFL wide receiver, NFL Transition Coach and Motivational Speaker, Freddie Scott II, has joined its Advisory Board.

ALC was founded in 2021, the year in which collegiate athletes were granted the ability to financially benefit from their NIL/IP rights. Acting as a TPA of IP rights, rather than a collective, marketplace or agency ensures ALC is never in conflict with the student-athlete’s best interest. ALC works with NIL programs in the largest, most competitive collegiate conferences, including the Power 5 and others.

“As a former athlete,  and through my work with collegiate and professional athletes, I understand the challenges these individuals face every day,” says Scott. “The NIL environment adds another level of complexity. Athlete Licensing Company keeps the focus on the student-athlete’s best interest. That’s why I chose to join their Advisory Board and am eager to help ALC continue to grow.”

The ALC founders and software team have collectively 50+ years of experience in IP rights administration, as well as a deep background in NIL/NCAA law and University athletic department administration and fundraising. At the core of ALC’s services is a robust tech platform that enables collectives, universities, agencies and brands to construct deals, allocate and distribute funds, assign revenue targets and engage donors. ALC also provides student-athletes with a mobile app that allows them to safely manage all aspects of their NIL business, including the ability to accept, track, show proof of work, receive payment and report their NIL/IP rights deals, as well as receive a royalty statement showing transactions and a single 1099 tax form. The app also includes royalty-splitting to pay agents, brands and schools for their co-branded merchandise or content.

Scott earned many accolades on the football field, including being recognized as Michigan’s top high school wide receiver. He was a starting wide receiver for the 1994 undefeated Penn State football team and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. After that, Scott spent several years in the National Football League, playing with the Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.

He earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, is certified in Mental Health First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention, and is a Transition Coach for the NFL Player Engagement Program. He also serves as a family expert for the NFL Players Association, conducting workshops across the country helping players transition from playing football professionally to becoming better leaders, husbands, and fathers. Throughout his career, Scott has spoken to over 70 Division I football teams and numerous NFL clubs. The NFL Players Association acknowledged Scott’s work by awarding him with the 2013 Kenny Washington Award. Scott is also the author of the book The Dad I Wish I Had, which has received national attention on CNN, HLN, Fox News, TBN, and Family Life. Additionally, the Parent Teacher Association of Tennessee awarded Scott with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Freddie brings a truly unique perspective to our organization. His father was a  professional athlete, he was a collegiate and professional athlete himself, and he is currently the parent of a collegiate athlete,” says Bryan Risner, ALC’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. “His insights will be invaluable as we work to expand our service offerings.”

The ALC platform and app are agnostic, in that they will work with collectives, merchandisers, marketplaces and third-parties to enhance the athlete’s funnel of opportunities while holding transaction costs down and allocating for taxes. The platform puts the athlete at the center and seamlessly connects them to universities, collectives, marketplaces, donors and brands. Additionally, ALC offers its clients access to a wide range of consulting services, from strategic planning to IP litigation and protection. The company works with its clients to ensure their NIL programs thrive and are sustainable by pro-actively working to address publishing royalties, media revenue sharing and even employment issues.

ALC has assembled an impressive Board of Advisors who are accomplished in collegiate and professional athletics, entertainment IP rights administration and global business. Scott will join:

Phil Fulmer, College Football Hall of Fame Coach and former University of Tennessee Athletic Director;

John Barker, Founder, President & CEO of ClearBox Rights, LLC;

Ben McDonald, former Major League Baseball Player and ESPN and Baltimore Orioles Broadcaster;

Drew Maddux, former Vanderbilt Basketball Player, High School Coach & Athletic Director, and Sports Media Analyst; and

Peri Widener, former VP & GM of Boeing Global Services.
